"Do online courses spell the end for the traditional university?"
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I am unbelievably fascinated by this debate in American Higher Education these days, especially after the drama that took place at U.Va. over the summer. U.Va. has just hopped on board and is offering a few courses, I think through Coursera.org. I haven't made an opinion yet on the subject - I value my four year education here in Charlottesville, but the power of a free education to anyone in the world - wow! What do you think?
I am fascinated by it, too - especially as I complete my Master of Arts degree through a low-residency program (with two weeks on campus a year). I would not trade my on-campus undergraduate experience for an online one - whenever I see these articles I immediately put it in my own perspective and think graduate school but I suppose the trend will be for undergrad, too. Time will tell!
